With the new Wunderline and Friesenbrücke, Deutsche Bahn is reactivating a crucial 173 km rail connection between Groningen and Bremen — modernized for faster travel and seamless cross-border transit. To make this project accessible and transparent to the public, we helped launch the Infobox: a physical, multimedia exhibition space where visitors can see, hear, and interact with every stage of the transformation.
Located near the Friesenbrücke construction site, the Infobox is part of a long-term public outreach strategy, designed to bring one of Europe’s most significant rail infrastructure upgrades closer to citizens and communities.
The Wunderline is more than a regional rail line — it’s a future-proofed mobility corridor. After the original Friesenbrücke was severely damaged in 2015, the route between Leer and Groningen was broken. With the full reconstruction of the bridge and modernization of the track, Deutsche Bahn is restoring high-speed, cross-border train service that reconnects Northern Germany with the Netherlands. The new bridge is a centerpiece of the Wunderline — technically advanced, structurally complex, and symbolically vital.
To accompany this effort, Deutsche Bahn launched a permanent info center to communicate the scale and progress of the work. The Infobox was opened to the public in December 2023 — timed to align with the official construction phase of the Wunderline.
We supported the concept and content for the Infobox — a modular, multimedia experience space located at the construction site in Westoverledingen and Weener. Visitors step into a tactile environment that mixes exhibition design with real engineering data: dynamic video displays, physical models, soundscapes, and interactive panels explain how the new Friesenbrücke is being built and why it matters.
This is infrastructure storytelling built for engagement. No dry timelines or blueprints — instead, we designed an experience that makes complex construction understandable and tangible. The Infobox acts as both education hub and community anchor: a place where locals, travelers, and stakeholders can get informed, stay curious, and feel connected to the transformation happening just outside its walls.
